ST MARY’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH KIRRIEMUIR
Perth scaffolding have recently completed the scaffolding works on this large town church that is now being renovated it was built towards the outskirts of Kirriemuir in 1904, replacing a classical church of 1797 that was destroyed by fire. St Mary’s is built in roughly coursed red sandstone rubble in an Arts and Crafts style. It is the only complete church in Scotland designed by Sir Ninian Comper, whose father was an Episcopal clergyman in Aberdeen. The church consists of a low, squat, square tower, nave, entrance porch with stair tower and chancel.
ST MATHEWS CHURCH
Work has begun on a £250,000 project to protect the exterior of Perth’s St Matthew’s Church which is a prominent feature on the city’s waterfront. The funding came from grants of £101,000 from both the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Historic Environment Scotland plus £18,000 from the congregation and reclaimed VAT. Local construction company One Call Ltd & Scaffolding contractor Perth Scaffolding was successful in tendering for this. The project aims to restore the stonework, rainwater facilities and stained glass work to ensure the preservation of the Tay Street church.
ST-LEONARDS-IN-THE-FIELD CHURCH MARSHALL PLACE PERTH
A £100,000 grant will help fund a major programme of restoration and conservation on one of Perth’s most recognisable historic buildings. St Leonard’s-in-the-Fields Church which overlooks the South Inch receives the money as part of a nationwide £30 million package which will benefit more than 500 historic places of worship. The work would focus on the leadworks and drainage on the roof of what Mr McMillan described as “a vast building”. Local construction company One Call Ltd & Scaffolding contractor Perth Scaffolding was successful in tendering for this.
